Chandigarh, February 19

Confusion prevails over the ownership of a park on the border of UT with Mohali in Sector 63, Chandigarh.

UT officials said the Municipal Corporation (MC), Mohali, illegally occupied the land and started construction of a parking lot there.

On getting a complaint from residents of the area, the Chandigarh Housing Board (CHB) informed the office of the Deputy Commissioner and thereafter, the construction work was stopped.

A senior officer of the CHB said the board had written a letter to the UT Chief Engineer to secure the land from encroachment by erecting a barbed wire or a wall.

On the other hand, Kamaljit Rubi, a councillor from Mohali, said there was a proof that the land was earmarked for greenbelt and it was being used as a dumping ground for quite some time.

The Mohali MC was maintaining the land for the past 20 years, he said, and added that in the map obtained from GMADA office, the land was shown within the boundary of the MC.
