Chandigarh: A cheating case has been registered against immigration consultant Bappaditya Mandal of Global Tree Careers, Sector 17, on a complaint of Babu Singh, who alleged that he had paid Rs75,000 in August 2018 for processing his daughter’s visa application for Canada. The suspect neither provided the visa nor returned the money. TNS

UT gets 3 more IAS officers

Chandigarh: The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has transferred three IAS officer of the DANICS cadre from their current post in Delhi to Chandigarh with immediate effect. According to an order issued by the Home Affairs Ministry, the competent authority has approved the transfer of D Karthikeyan, a 2009-batch officer, Akhil Kumar, a 2010-batch officer, and Amit Kumar, a 2010-batch officer, to Chandigarh with immediate effect and until further orders. Earrings, cash snatched in city

Chandigarh: Three unknown persons allegedly snatched cash and earrings from a youth and his friend in Sector 42. The complainant, Sumit Kumar, a resident of Dadu Majra Colony, reported that three miscreants snatched Rs15,220 from him and earrings from his friend near the parking of the lake cafeteria in Sector 42 on February 16. The police have registered a case at the Sector 36 police station. TNS

Taekwondo players shine

Panchkula: Taekwondo players Aranaya Thakur and Davinder Saini of Sky World School, Sector 21, brought laurels by participating in the 9th Fujairah International Taekwondo Championship at the UAE. Thakur won the gold medal in the U-55kg category by defeating Abujaish Sara, Bendaouid Noor and Kaznabek Togzhan. Saini, meanwhile, participated in the championship. The school honoured both players. Throwball trials on February 20

Chandigarh: The Amateur Throwball Association of Chandigarh will organise trials to select boys and girls teams at CL Aggarwal DAV Model School, Sector 7, here, February 20 from 3 pm. The selected teams will participate in the 31st Junior National Throwball Championship to be held at Kunjaragiri (Udupi) from March 4 to 6. TNS

Royal Cricket Academy win

Chandigarh: Aayush Sikka scored 109 off 102 balls, studded with 11 boundaries, to help Royal Cricket Academy, Sector 27, defeat Dashmesh Cricket Academy, Zirakpur, by nine runs in the 3rd North Zone Panna Lal Memorial U-23 Cricket Tournament. Batting first, Royal Cricket Academy posted 260/2 in 40 overs. Sikka’s innings was supported Rehan Raj Sharma (103) and Prathm Singh (32). Gurmehar Singh (2/37) was the main wicket taker for the bowling side. In reply, the Zirakpur outfit was bundled out for 251 runs in 39.4 overs. Gurmehar Singh (99), Akashdeep Singh (30) and Aditya Kaushik (28) were the main run scorers for the side. Sikka claimed three wickets, while Mohamed Sohail, Pankaj Singh and Sumit Punia took two wickets each. Rehan Raj Sharma also grabbed one wicket.
