Chandigarh toll 20 as Burail woman succumbs

A 50-year-old woman of Burail, who was suffering from a severe rheumatic heart disease, died of Covid at the PGI yesterday, taking the UT toll to 20.

The woman was sampled on August 2 and diagnosed Covid positive yesterday. She had a history of fall after giddiness and was taken to the PGI Trauma Centre where she was reported to be having a subdural haemorrhage. Her condition deteriorated and she suffered a cardiac arrest and could not be revived.

The city also witnessed the biggest single-day spike of 46 cases today. So far, the UT has seen 1,206 cases and 470 of these are active. The new cases have been reported from Sector 15, 36, 34, 39, 44, 45, 32, 42, 50, 46, 48, 19 and 49, Ram Darbar, Khuda Jassu, Dhanas, Raipur Khurd, Mauli Jagran, Daria, Mani Majra, Burail, Bapu Dham Colony, PGI campus and Khuda Lahora.

Among the new cases are an employee each of the Civil Hospital, Sector 22, and the Government Medical College and Hospital, Sector 32, and two employees of the PGI. Four members of a family in Dhanas, including a three-year-old girl, have been infected. Five of a family in Bapu Dham Colony also contracted the virus.

Nine recover

Meanwhile, nine more patients recovered from the infection, raising the number of recoveries in the city to 715.
