Chandigarh sees coldest June day in 9 yrs

Records max temperature at 27.9°C, which is 10.3 degrees below normal

Continuous cloudy and rainy weather since June 15 made today the coldest June day after 2013.

The city today recorded 27.9°C as the maximum temperature, which is as much as 10.3 degrees below normal. It was way back in June 2013 that the maximum temperature lower than this was recorded. It was on June 16 in 2013 that the city had seen the maximum temperature at 24.2°C. Between 2022 and 2013, the lowest maximum temperature in June remained between 28°C and 34°C. The minimum temperature today fell to 24.1°C, which is 1.4 degrees below normal. However, the maximum as well as the minimum temperatures are expected to see a slight rise in the coming days.

As per the weather department, the weather is likely to be cloudy for the next three days. Thereafter, it is expected to be partly cloudy sky for two days. Going by the forecast, residents would continue to have some respite from the hot weather which was felt in the first half of June. In the next five days, the maximum temperature is expected to reach 37°C. This month has already seen 31.2 mm of rainfall.

Chandigarh Meteorological Department Director Manmohan Singh said, “It was the coldest June day in nine years as rain was witnessed today and it remained cloudy thereafter. There was hardly any sunlight. Due to active western disturbance, the second half of the month saw rains. The weather will be clear after June 22. After that, another western disturbance is expected.”
