Chandigarh: Sec 50, 63 people struggle to purchase grocery items

Chandigarh, March 30

Residents of some southern sectors are facing a tough time in the absence of local markets.

Parvesh Chauhan, adviser, RWA, Sector 50, said: “There are no local markets in Sector 50 and 63. So, we have to walk to Sector 51 to buy grocery items. It is about 2.5 km to 3 km away from our house. They should at least allow us to visit the market on scooters.”

Girish Kapoor, president of the RWA, Sector 50, said: “It is very difficult for senior citizens. How will they lift a bag of wheat and take it to their place on their back. Some arrangement should be made”.

Chauhan, however, said they were getting vegetables in their localities through MC vehicles. “These vehicles are coming to our place in a routine. The issue is only with grocery items and medicines,” he said. — TNS
