Chandigarh, November 22

In the wake of poor ranking in Swachh Survekshan-2021 and delay in floating two tenders, UT Administrator Banwarilal Purohit today relieved Amrit Pal Singh, Medical Officer of Health (MOH), MC, with immediate effect and also debarred him from holding any post in the UT Administration in future.

What MC stated

“Keeping in view the larger interests of the MC and the city, the Commissioner recommended his repatriation due to lapses in tendering an important work for which the MC will have to bear an expenditure of Rs16.50 crore for four-month extension to the firm.”

According to a press note issued by the MC, taking a serious note of “misconduct of services and failures during his tenure”, the decision was taken on the recommendation of MC Commissioner Anindita Mitra. Earlier today, she had sought his immediate repatriation to his parent state Punjab. “Keeping in view the larger interests of the MC and the city, the Commissioner recommended his repatriation due to lapses in tendering an important work for which the MC will have to bear an expenditure of Rs16.50 crore for four-month extension to the present company,” the statement read.

Earlier, a chargesheet had also been proposed to the Punjab Government for a major penalty against the MOH in another tender case of outsourcing of drivers for 96 vehicles, which are still not in use for deployment to use for door-to-door garbage collection of un-serviced areas. — TNS
