MC Commissioner Anindita Mitra, said, “Our staff will work for eight to 10 hours on a rotation basis for 75 hours on the trot. Public participation will be welcomed. Additionally, we will organise yoga classes and games for kids for three days at the venue.” She said the 75-hour project was part of celebrations to commemorate 75 years of Independence. In three days, works worth Rs25 to 30 lakh will be carried out. There is a plan to hold different competitions and programmes on a stage to be set up at the venue. The school will be connected with the green belt so that kids can take benefit of the facility.

The MC has been working on realising the project for the past few days. Since there is a fixed 75-hour period for carrying out the works, the MC has started arranging material, which is to be used there. The material is being kept near the site.

Under ‘placemaking’, an underutilised space is selected and enhanced to the urban experience for area residents. This is the first time that the civic body is working on such a project. The facility will be beneficial for the thickly-populated Indira Colony area where a majority of population is from the low-income group.
