Chandigarh, April 15

City golfer Ayaan Gupta (16) has won the category A IGU Haryana Junior Boys Golf Championship held at Panchkula Golf Club from April 11 to 15. He won in the category A (boys) with a score of 75, 72, 71 and 77 over four days.

This is his first major victory in the IGU national circuit, competing with 70 golfers participating from all over the country. He was also the overall winner in the A and AB categories.

For Ayaan, who took to golf at the age of five, Friday’s result puts into perspective his hardwork. It has been a long journey from the time when Ayaan won his first international tournament as an eight-year-old player at the 2014 US Kids International Championship.

Mentored by coaches Sundeep Verma, Pritam Saikia and Karanbir Singh Lall for eight years, Ayaan’s list of laurels is long. Prominent among them is the Pondok Indah International Junior Championship in Jakarta in 2016.

Playing the IGU junior boys circuit since 2018 and finishing among the top 10 in several events in Category B, Ayaan’s progress was halted by the pandemic in 2020, but he made a new start on Friday.
