Chandigarh, June 30

A local court has dismissed the bail application of an accused, Arun, who was allegedly arrested with 20 injections of liposomal amphotericin, which is used to treat black fungus.

The accused was arrested from Sector 18 here on June 4. An FIR was registered against him under Section 420 of the IPC, Section 7 of the Essential Commodities Act and Section 27 of the Drugs and Cosmetics Act at the Sector 19 police station.

In the FIR, the police said they received information that the accused, a resident of Ludhiana, was planning to meet some customers to sell the injections at higher prices without any licence.

The counsel for the accused claimed that Arun had been falsely implicated in the case. He had valid slips for the procurement of medicines issued by the Punjab health authorities. However, the public prosecutor opposed the bail. After hearing the arguments, the Court dismissed the bail plea of the accused. — TNS
