Centre: Covid curve has plateaued in Chandigarh

The Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare today listed Chandigarh among the states/UTs that have shown a “decline or plateau” in the Covid-19 cases.

“Analysing the seven-day moving average, it has been observed that daily cases have been continuously plateauing in Chandigarh,” the ministry said in a media briefing on Covid-19.

The day-to-day fluctuations in the cases are evened out in the seven-day moving average, informed Dr Rajesh Kumar, former Head of School of Public Health, PGI. Hence, it is an important indicator to understand the trend in the cases, he said.

Dr Amandeep Kang, Director, Health Services, said the doubling rate of infection in the city was 44.5 days.

She also mentioned that 10 mobile testing teams had been deputed to different parts of Chandigarh for facilitating testing. Meanwhile, the hospital occupancy in the city has reached to its full capacity.

PGI Director Dr Jagat Ram today informed that they had 365 Covid cases at PGI, out of which 108 belonged to Chandigarh, 114 to Punjab, 52 to Haryana, 22 to Himachal Pradesh, 18 to New Delhi and 51 to other states. Dr Jagat Ram also mentioned that they had created extra beds by utilising the wards to accommodate Covid patients.

A total of 404 beds have been made available, out of which 76 are ICU beds, he informed.

Dr Jasbinder Kaur, Director Principal, GMCH-32, said they had 332 Covid patients – 46 at Sood Dharamshala, 55 at Dhanwantry Hospital, 74 at Sector 48 hospital and 157 at GMCH-32.

8 deaths in UT

Chandigarh: The city recorded 890 Covid-19 cases on Friday, taking the number of active cases to 8,505. With eight more deaths, the toll has reached 549. A total of 797 patients were cured. The total number of cases in the UT has gone up to 48,442. TNS

9 deaths, 927 cases in Mohali District

Mohali: Nine Covid deaths were reported from the district in the past 24 hours, taking the toll to 666. A total of 927 persons were found infected with the virus, while 781 more patients were cured of the disease. Among the fresh cases, 289 were reported from Mohali (urban), 19 from Kurali, 25 from Banur, 29 each from Lalru and Boothgarh, 53 from Gharuan, 102 from Kharar, 129 from Dera Bassi and 252 from Dhakoli. There are now 9,047 active cases in the district. TNS

Four succumb to Covid in Panchkula

Panchkula: Four more persons succumbed to Covid-19 in the past 24 hours, taking the total number of deaths in Panchkula district to 240. The district also reported 523 new infections, taking the total number of cases to 24,092. Out of these, 21,091 have been discharged from the hospitals. There are 2,761 active cases in the district. Among the four dead, two are from Kalka and one each from Sector 15 and Ghatiwala village. TNS
