Zirakpur, February 18

Candidates of various parties held roadshows on the last day of campaigning in the Dera Bassi Assembly constituency. Zirakpur, with around 1.4-lakh electorate, was the focus of three-time MLA and SAD-BSP candidate NK Sharma, BJP candidate Sanjiv Khanna, a new entrant, and AAP candidate Kuljit Singh Randhawa.

Sanjiv Khanna of the BJP wears a garland of currency notes during his roadshow in Zirakpur on Friday.

Congress candidate Deepinder Singh Dhillon addressed election rallies in Zirakpur, Handesra, Mubarikpur, Dera Bassi and Lalru.

In Lalru, Dhillon said the statement of Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi about UP natives was about Arvind Kejriwal himself becoming the Chief Minister of Punjab and not about any particular section. Channi, in fact, understands the plight of the poor and immigrants more than anyone else, he added.

Meanwhile, Sharma said he had the support of more than 100 social organisations, RWAs and societies in Zirakpur. His roadshow started from Sharma Farm House and passed through VIP Road, Bhabat, Big Bazaar chowk, Baltana, furniture market, Guru Gobind Singh Nagar, Dhakoli, MS Enclave, Peer Muchalla, Kishanpura, Ghazipur Sainiyan and Ghazipur Jattan, and culminated back at Sharma Farm House.

In the afternoon, BJP candidate Khanna started the roadshow from the party office in Zirakpur. It passed through Gazipur road, Old Ambala road, Panchkula shopping complex, Bollywood Heights, Tricity Plaza, Platinum Tower, Chinar Heights, Prakash Tower and many other societies of the town before culminating and back at the office.

While talking to the reporters, Khanna said he got a huge public support while campaigning.
