Chandigarh, March 27

To streamline the supply of fruits and vegetables, the Chandigarh Administration today sent a fleet of Chandigarh Transport Buses (CTU) laden with vegetables to different sectors and peripheral areas of the city.

An official said that buses were sent to Sectors 7, 27, 20, 34, 44, 52, 50, 51, Dhanas EWS colony, Modern Housing Complex in Mani Majra and other parts of the city. He said the vegetables were sold at fixed rates.

UT Adviser Manoj Parida thanked residents of Chandigarh for standing in queues and maintaining social distancing in buying vegetables from government vehicles at fixed rates . The administration had come under criticism on Thursday for chinks in the doorstep delivery mechanism. The residents had alleged that grocery and chemist shops listed by MC to deliver right at home were not responding to their calls.

The civic body had then started the bus services in some parts of the city apart from doorstep deliveries.
