Book on '71 war released

Chandigarh, December 15

A book, ‘War In The East, Liberation of Bangladesh,1971,’ authored by Col Ranbir Singh was released here today.

The book, released by former Lieutenant Governor of Andaman and Nicobar Islands and Puducherry, Lt General Bhopinder Singh, illustrates the courage of Indian soldiers which resulted in the liberation of Bangladesh and focuses on the leadership at the junior level.

Former Northern Army Commander, Lt Gen HS Panag, former Southern Army Commander, Lt Gen GS Sihota and a number of veterans were present on the occasion. Col Ranbir said while most of the books on the 1971 war have been written from the higher perspective of top military commanders, his book highlighted battalion level operations focusing on junior commanders’ leadership. — TNS
