Chandigarh, July 31

Two motorcycle-borne miscreants allegedly thrashed and robbed two fruit vendors while they were going to purchase fruits from the vegetable market, Sector 17, during the wee hours of today.

One of the victims, Pushaki Lal, a resident of Shastri Nagar, Mani Majra, was going to the ISBT, Sector 17, to purchase fruits when the miscreants, riding a black motorcycle, stopped and thrashed him. The incident took place around 3.30 am. His nephew Titu, also a fruit vendor, said he was to leave with his uncle, but his uncle left home early. “My uncle took a different route and I took another route from Mani Majra to reach the ISBT 17. On reaching there, I got a call that my uncle was lying unconscious on the road separating Sector 18 and 8,” he said.

Titu rushed to the spot and found that his uncle had been robbed of around Rs20,000. He was taken to the GMSH-16. He suffered a fracture on his left arm.

Similarly, another vegetable vendor, Parmod, a resident of Sector 26, who was on his way to the vegetable market in Sector 17, was thrashed and robbed of Rs12,000 by motorcycle-borne miscreants on Madhya Marg. He was injured and taken to a hospital for treatment. The police have initiated an investigation into both incidents.

Sources said the miscreants were riding a Bullet motorcycle. The police are scrutinising the footage of CCTV cameras installed in the area.
