Chandigarh: In a hit-and-run case, a motorcyclist was seriously injured after an unknown vehicle hit the bike. The victim, Gurdeep Singh, a resident of Sialba village in Mohali district, was hit by an unknown vehicle near Badheri Chowk. Gurdeep was seriously injured and admitted to the PGI. The police have registered a case against an unknown person on a complaint of Constable Bhim Singh of the Sector 39 police station. TNS

Man held with 1.2-kg charas

Chandigarh: An Ambala resident has been arrested by the local police with 1.2 kg of charas. According to the police, the suspect, Fariyad, a resident of Ambala Cantt, was arrested from IT Park with the charas. A case has been registered against him under the NDPS Act at the IT Park police station. TNS

23-yr-old woman raped, one held

Ambala: A 23-year-old woman was raped by her brother-in-law at a village in Mullana. The suspect has been arrested and sent to 14-day judicial remand by a local court. Ambala women police station SHO Sunita said the victim reported to the police that she got married in 2014 and on January 20 when she was alone at home, her brother-in-law raped her and threatened her of dire consequences. However, on February 16, she mustered the courage and reported the matter to the police. TNS

Girl abducted, youth booked

Ambala: A young girl was abducted on the pretext of marriage, the police said today. According to the police, Satish Kumar, a resident of Baldev Nagar, had reported to the police that Jaspreet had abducted his daughter on the pretext of marriage on February 17. The police have registered a case of abduction and launched a manhunt to trace the girl. TNS

Pedestrian dies in Ambala

Ambala: A 57-year-old pedestrian, who has been identified as Ramdev, was killed when a recklessly driven motorcycle hit him near railway line overbridge crossing on National Highway-1 in Ambala Cantonment on Tuesday evening. The victim was rushed to civil hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries. In a separate mishap, Nitik (10) was left seriously injured after a speeding motorcycle hit him on the GT road in Ambala City. The police have registered separate cases against the drivers involved in the accidents. TNS

One held with 6.76-gm heroin

Ambala: The police have claimed to recover 6.76-gm heroin from possession of a man. The suspect has been identified as Gaurav, a resident of Ambala City. According to the police, the suspect was intercepted at Sector 9-10 intersection in Ambala City and his search yielded the contraband. The suspect was produced before a court, which remanded him to 14-day judicial custody. TNS

Five proclaimed offenders held

Ambala: The police have arrested five proclaimed offenders wanted in separate criminal cases registered against them at different police stations in the district. The arrested persons were evading arrest ever since they were booked by the police following which the competent courts had declared them proclaimed offenders. Those arrested include Nayab Singh of Yamunanagar, wanted in Naraingarh; Daleep Kumar of Ambala Cantonment, wanted in Ambala Cantonment; Johnson of Shimla, wanted in Ambala Cantonment and Amarjit Singh of Ambala Sadar, wanted in a criminal case registered against him at Ambala Sadar police station. The accused will be produced before the local courts on Thursday. TNS
