As cases dip, Chandigarh administration further eases curbs

Shops to open till 7 pm, eateries till 10 pm | Night curfew from 10.30 pm to 5 am

Following a sharp decline in the number of Covid-19 cases, the UT Administration has announced further relaxation in the restrictions imposed to check the spread of the virus in the city.

At a meeting chaired by UT Administrator VP Singh Badnore, it was decided to extend the shopping timings by an hour. From tomorrow, all shops will remain open from 10 am to 7 pm. The shop owners will ensure that the Covid protocol is duly followed.

In a relief to the hospitality industry, all restaurants and bars can remain open with 50 per cent capacity from 10 am to 10 pm. Earlier, the timings were from 10 am to 9 pm.

The Administration has also reduced the night curfew timing. Now, the night curfew in the city will be from 10.30 pm to 5 am.

During the meeting, Dr Amandeep Kang, Director, Health Services, said they the positivity rate was 2.9 per cent. She said the overall recovery rate was 97.7 per cent and the fatality rate was 1.3 per cent. She said the doubling rate was now 724 days. She also mentioned that 4,11,789 doses of the vaccine had been administered in Chandigarh and at present about 6,000 doses were being administered daily.

Black fungus cases plateauing in UT

Dr Jagat Ram, PGI Director, mucormycosis cases were plateauing as the daily count had gone down to five-six in the past two-three days from about 15 cases per day earlier.
