Panchkula, July 1

A doctor from the city and two others from Delhi and Chandigarh tested positive for Covid-19 today.

The 34-year-old doctor, who lives in Sector 5, Mansa Devi Complex, is a colleague of a doctor at Alchemist Hospital in Sector 21 who had earlier tested positive for the virus.

A 20-year-old youth, who had recently shifted to Panchkula from Delhi along with his family, also tested positive for coronavirus. The infected person lives at a rented accommodation in a group housing society in Sector 20 here.

Civil Surgeon Jasjeet Kaur said the youth would not be added to the Panchkula Covid tally as he was not a permanent resident of the district. He was receiving treatment at the Sector 6 Civil Hospital, she added.

A 55-year-old man from Mani Majra in Chandigarh also contracted the virus. His samples were taken at the flu corner on the Civil Hospital premises. When asked why he wasn’t sampled in Chandigarh, Dr Rajiv Narwal, Covid nodal officer for the district, said he did not know the actual reason but they could not deny test to anyone.

Long wait for testing

A large number of people were seen waiting for hours outside the flu corner at the Civil Hospital in Sector 6 to get tested for Covid.

Sandeep, a 20-year-old youth from Indira Colony, said, “It has been more than two hours since I am waiting here. It is too hard to get tested here. I have common Covid symptoms like fever and cough. A long wait for the test also exposes others, including hospital staff, to the infection.”

Three members of a family from Sector 21, who recently arrived from Delhi, also had a similar story to tell. They urged the authorities to make the Covid testing process smooth.
