Administration warns striking NHM staff

Chandigarh, October 28

As National Health Mission (NHM) employees in the city have decided to continue their strike over salary hike tomorrow, the UT Administration today warned that the staff that did not report to the duty will not be allowed to join and the process to terminate their contractual appointment with immediate effect will be initiated.

“To ensure smooth operation of health services in the city during the ongoing crisis of Covid, malaria and dengue and to avoid such frequent incidents of indiscipline, we need to deal with it strictly,” the UT Administration stated in a press release.

The Administration has also requested the outsourcing agency to provide staff as substitute to the protesting NHM staff. “During the process, preference may be given to those outsourced staff deputed during the second wave of Covid and was disengaged recently,” the UT Administration stated, adding that they would also depute the existing staff in shifts to overcome the “shortage”.

It has also been decided that the NHM staff on strike would not be allowed to enter the premises of health facility. “In case of any unauthorised entry, appropriate action to be taken as per the law,” stated the press release.

The police have been asked to ensure law and order at health facilities across the city. — TNS
