9 counting centres set up across Chandigarh

Nine vote counting centres have been set up by the State Election Commission, UT, and the final results will be known by around 2 pm on Monday.

Location of the centres

• Govt Home Science College, Sector 10 (Ward 1-4)
• Chandigarh College of Engineering and Technology, Sector 26 (Ward 5-8)
• Govt Senior Secondary School, Sector 18 (Ward 9-12)
• Post Graduate College, Sector 11 (Ward 13-16)
• Govt College for Education, Sector 20 (Ward 17-20)
• Chandigarh Institute of Hotel Management, Sec 42 (Ward 21-24)
• Post Graduate Govt College for Girls, Sector 42 (Ward 25-28)
• Govt College of Commerce and Business Admn, Sector 50 (Ward 29-32)
• Post Graduate College, Sector 46 (Ward 32-35)

The outcome of each round will be updated after every hour at the tents outside the counting centres as well as on the Nigam Chunav App of the commission.

“Since there were 26 wards last year, the final results were out around 1 pm. This time, the results should be known by 2 pm,” said K Bhandari, OSD to the Election commissioner, while talking to Chandigarh Tribune.

According to him, the strongrooms where 694 EVMs have been kept will be opened at 7:30 am so that mechanised counting can be started at 9 am. Nine returning officers and observers, who are UT officers of various departments, have been appointed for these centres.

Around 80 staff members will be put on the counting job.

While 80 BSF personnel will be guarding the centres inside, the local police will be deployed outside. The staff deputed at the centres will be provided with sanitiser, masks, etc.

Agents (representatives of political parties) and mediapersons will be allowed to witness counting from the barricading to be put up at the counting centres.

Last year, there were seven counting centres while the number of wards was 26. With the wards having been increased to 35 this time, the number of centres has also been raised to nine. The fate of a total of 203 candidates of various political parties and Independents was sealed yesterday.
