80-year-old Mohali woman tests positive, total cases in district 5

With one more coronavirus positive case surfacing in Mohali on Monday, the total number of cases in the district has risen to five.

Civil Surgeon Dr Manjeet Singh said an 80-year-old woman, a resident of Phase 5, had tested positive and had been kept in an isolation ward of Civil Hospital, Kharar. The woman was the landlady of the 27-year-old woman who was tested positive.

The 27-year-old woman is an employee and friend of a Mohali-based showroom owner’s 23-year-old daughter, who was the first to be declared positive in Chandigarh. The 27-year-old had gone to Amritsar airport to pick her friend after her return from the UK.

Meanwhile, the health authorities have kept 397 persons of various areas in Mohali district under home quarantine and advised them not to move out.

Deputy Commissioner Girish Dayalan and SSP Kuldeep Singh Chahal also visited different parts of the district and exhorted people to stay indoors and contribute towards making the efforts of the administration to combat coronavirus. They said cases would be registered against those found moving out of their houses and endangering the lives of others.
