Mohali, January 20

Nearly 65 per cent of the patients hospitalised in the district after getting infected with Covid-19 have not got themselves vaccinated.

Out of the total 23 patients, only 15 have received the shot, as per the data provided by the Integrated Disease Surveillance Program (IDSP), Mohali. Two patients out of the four who died today were not vaccinated too.

The IDSP data further revealed that positivity rate in the Kharar subdivision was the highest at 131.75 per cent today while the Dera Bassi and Mohali subdivisions recorded 24.50 per cent and 18.90 per cent, respectively.

Deputy Commissioner Isha Kalia said they had been urging the people to get themselves fully vaccinated. She said eight of the 23 Covid patients admitted to hospitals had received only the first dose. The admitted patients might not have been hospitalised if they had taken both the doses, she added.

Civil Surgeon Adarshpal Kaur said during the third Covid-19 wave, they observed that only those patients had developed complications, who had not taken medication from day one. In the initial stage, people considered the disease as flu and kept avoiding medication for five to six days, thus developing complications which proved fatal in some cases.

She informed that of the total 9,013 active cases in the district, 8,997 (8,533 in urban and 464 in rural areas) were under home isolation.
