Mohali, February 6

The body of a six-year-old girl, who reportedly died after falling in an underground water tank in Nayagaon on February 2, was exhumed for post-mortem in the presence of a specially constituted board today.

A Naib tehsildar from Kharar, a doctor from Kharar subdivisional hospital and police officials were present when the body was exhumed from the Sector 25 crematorium.

The girl’s parents had filed a missing person’s report with the Nayagaon police on February 2, but on the night of February 4, her father, Surender Kumar, a resident of Adarsh Nagar, informed the police that his child had fallen in an underground tank of an under-construction house in the neighbourhood. The child was taken to the hospital, where she was declared dead.

The girl’s parents wanted to confirm that the death was an accident and the child was not harmed by anyone.
