3 shots fired outside Panchkula café, attacker's aide injured

Three shots were fired at a Sector 11-based café lounge in the wee hours today, injuring a man accompanying the attacker. A bouncer was also injured as he tried to prevent the attacker from entering the establishment.

The police have procured the CCTV footage installed at Coco Cafe and Lounge. On the complaint of the bouncer, Naresh Sharma, the police have registered case against Mohit, a resident of Ludhiana, and started a search for the accused.

The police said Naresh, in his complaint, claimed he was present at the entry counter around 4.15 am, when Mohit emerged from the café lounge talking on the phone. As he reached his vehicle, the accused suddenly pulled out a pistol and opened fire at an unidentified youth with intent to kill. The youth ducked to dodge the bullet, and in the process it hit the foot of the attacker’s accomplice, who was standing by the car.

Naresh claimed the accused then tried to enter the café lounge firing at the youth, who ran inside to save his life. Naresh said he also ducked to save himself and with the help of other bouncers, snatched the pistol from the accused.

During the scuffle, Naresh suffered a deep cut in the left hand. The accused, who frequents the café lounge, fled the scene along with the injured accomplice.

A team from the Sector-5 police station reached the scene and started investigations. They recovered two shells from the scene.

The injured bouncer was taken to the Civil Hospital, Sector 6, from where he was referred to the GMCH-32, Chandigarh. Vinay Kumar, manager of the café lounge, was not present at the time of the incident. The Inspector, Excise Department, later visited the scene. The police have booked Mohit under the Arms Act and other sections. The cafe operator has also been booked. — TNS

Bistro open till 4.15 am, manager booked

Violating the government orders, the café lounge was open till 4.15 am, when the incident occurred. The stipulated time for closing such establishments is 2 am. Its manager has been booked.
