3 juveniles among 5 held for robbery

Chandigarh, January 27

Five persons, including three juveniles, who have a criminal past, have been arrested by the Chandigarh Police for allegedly robbing a man at knife-point. According to the police, complainant Pankaj of Dadu Majra Colony, Sector 38 (West), was robbed of his mobile phone and a purse containing Rs 600 and documents by five unknown boys while he was on his way to Mauli Jagran from the railway station.

Confessed to crime 

  • During their interrogation, the suspects reportedly confessed that they were involved in over 100 incidents of pickpocketing at the railway station and 15 incidents of robbery.

The police were informed following which a case was registered at the Mauli Jagran police station. During the investigation, the suspects, Shubham, alias Baimbo (22), and Rajinder, alias Dhani (24), both residents of Mauli Jagran, and three juveniles were arrested. The police recovered the robbed mobile phone and the purse from them. A toy pistol has also been recovered from the suspects, which was used to threaten the victims.

During their interrogation, the suspects reportedly confessed that they were involved in over 100 incidents of pickpocketing at the railway station and 15 incidents of robbery, of which five robberies were committed by them after stabbing the victims.

The police said the suspects confessed that all robberies were committed earlier this month.

Most of the incidents have occurred in areas under the jurisdiction of the GRP, Chandigarh, and cases have also been reported to the GRP.

The police said the suspects were found to be involved in theft and burglary cases in Chandigarh, Panchkula, Kalka and Pinjore.

The juveniles were sent to Juvenile Home on January 26. Meanwhile, the other two suspects were remanded in judicial custody today. — TNS
