3 get 18-month jail for impersonation

A local court has awarded 18-month imprisonment to three persons in the bus conductor recruitment examination of the Chandigarh Transport Undertaking (CTU).

The court of Ravish Kaushik, Judicial Magistrate First Class (Special Judge, CBI), also imposed a fine of Rs 6,000 each on the convicts, identified as Rajinder Kumar, Sanjay Bhardwaj and Sandeep Kumar. However, Naveen Kumar was acquitted in the case on Tuesday.

According to the prosecution, during a surprise check in the CTU bus conductor recruitment examination on October 3, 2010, sleuths of the CBI found three persons impersonating in the examination.

Rajinder Kumar was the actual candidate and Sanjay Bhardwaj was the impersonator, who was brought to the examination centre by Sandeep Kumar (a Delhi Government employee). Sandeep had used the car of another accused Naveen Kumar.

The CBI had arrested Sanjay Bhardwaj. On the basis of information shared by him, Sandeep Kumar and another accused were arrested.

During previous hearing in August 2019, two impersonators and two actual candidates were convicted and the court had awarded two-year imprisonment to the convicts. They include Vikran, Sonu (both residents of Jind) and their impersonators Rajeev Roy and Rinku, residents of Bihar. Apart from them, Jitender, Deepak Kumar and Kamal were acquitted by the court.

These four were held guilty under Section 120-B read with Section 420 (cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property) and Section 468 (forgery for purpose of cheating) of the IPC. Convict Rajeev Roy and Rinku were also held guilty under Section 419 (punishment for cheating by impersonation) of the IPC.
