Chandigarh, February 4

Three operatives of foreign-based gangster Goldy Brar, who were involved in the incident of firing shots at a businessman’s house in Sector 5 here, have been arrested from Gorakhpur by a joint team of the Punjab and Chandigarh police.

Those arrested have been identified as Amritpal Singh, alias Gujjar, of Kaloli, Banur; Kamalpreet Singh of Devinagar Abrawan, Banur; and Prem Singh of Amrala in Dera Bassi. A joint team of the Punjab and Chandigarh police nabbed the gangsters at Gorakhpur Railway Station with the assistance of the local police.

Punjab DGP Gaurav Yadav said preliminary investigation had revealed that Amritpal and Kamalpreet had fired shots at the businessman’s house in Sector 5, while Prem Singh facilitated their escape from the crime scene by providing them with his car. Prem also sheltered the two shooters at his home.

“On the directions of Goldy Brar, the trio fled to Bihar on January 27 and took shelter at Gurdwara Patna Sahib for two days before shifting to a hideout provided to them by Goldy at Chhitauli village in Bihar,” said the DGP, adding that in the morning of February 4, they left the hideout in order to shift to a new place.

The police said the three accused had a tainted past. Several criminal cases of attempt to murder, extortion, robbery and Arms Act were registered against them in Punjab. Earlier, accused Gurwinder Singh, alias Laddu (26), a resident of Mullanpur; and Kashi Singh, alias Harry (21), of Patiala district, were arrested in the firing case.

The case was registered on a complaint filed by Kuldeep Singh. He had reported that on January 19, he heard shots being fired outside his house around 4.14 am. The bullets hit the SUV parked there. A case was registered at the Sector 3 police station.

The businessman had received extortion calls from Goldy Brar, who is one of the main accused in the Sidhu Moosewala murder case.

Joint action of cops from Punjab, UT

A joint team of Anti-Gangster Task Force of the Punjab Police and Chandigarh cops had been on the tail of the trio on their way from Bihar to Uttar Pradesh. The team nabbed the gangsters at Gorakhpur Railway Station with the assistance of the local police.
