Mohali, November 28

A UP-based contractor was held for abetment to suicide after a 19-year-old boy hanged himself to death in an under-construction house at TDI City this morning. Before the suicide, the deceased, Asif, a native of Amroha (UP), shot a video alleging that his two-month salary, around Rs24,000 was being withheld by the civil contractor and he was not allowed to leave the site.

The police said the victim also alleged that he had no money left for two square meals. The police said the youth alleged in the video that contractor Saif Ali of UP was torturing and threatening him for a long time. As a result, he was depressed and decided to take the extreme step. The victim was employed as a helper to a car penter and was living in an under-construction building for the past some time.

ASI Dilbag Singh said, “The police have seized the mobile phone in which the video was shot. A case under Section 306 of the IPC has been registered at the Balongi police station. The suspect has been arrested.” The police sent the body for a post-mortem.
