Mohali, December 7

The police today arrested a resident of Balmiki Colony, Phase-6, Deepu, for allegedly strangling his 19-year-old wife to death at their house on the night of Sunday.

The deceased, identified as Babli Devi, a native of UP, had married the suspect seven months ago. The police have registered a case of dowry death (Section 304-B of the Indian Penal Code).

After killing his wife, the suspect took her to the hospital, claiming that she had fainted all of a sudden and died. The post-mortem report confirmed the death by strangulation, following which he was arrested.

In his complaint to the police, the deceased’s father alleged that Deepu used to torture his wife, beat her up and demand more dowry. On Sunday night, the couple had arguments following which he strangled Babli.
