After the announcement of curfew throughout the state, one dozen youths who had come to the district from different areas of Punjab and Haryana for employment were stuck in the curfew.

The youths said they had come here to get jobs and their parents were worried about them.

The 12 persons, who came here from Moga, Nawanshehr, Barnala and Sirsa, today met Balwinder Singh Kumbra, a social worker, for help. Balwinder provided them food and coordinated with the district administration for helping them, but to no avail. An official from the administration suggested them to contact MC Commissioner Kamal Kumar Garg.

The youths then contacted Mohali MC Commissioner, who assured them to provide two-time meal.

One of the victims, Rajdeep Singh, said he had come here from Moga 13 days ago in search of a security guard job. He said he did not get job and now he was unable to return to his hometown.

Another victim, Ajit Singh, said he had come here from Nawanshehr a week ago for kirtan duty.

Harmandeep Singh, who was here for seeking call centre job, said they all were unemployed and got stuck in the city and they did not know how to reach their hometown now.

All youths are residing with their friends or acquaintances as no one is ready to provide them shelter.
