1 dead, another hurt as pickup overturns

Chandigarh, June 15

One person was killed and another injured after a recklessly driven Mahindra pickup overturned near the Transport light point, Sector 26, on the intervening night of June 14 and 15.

The police said information about the accident was received around 1 am following which they reached the spot. While one of the injured, Sanju, was lying under the overturned vehicle, the other injured, identified as Suresh Kumar, had already been rushed to a hospital in an ambulance.

The police said a fire engine was also rushed to the spot. Sanju was rescued and taken to Government Multi-Specialty Hospital, Sector 16. Doctors at the hospital referred him to the PGI, where doctors declared him brought dead. Suresh is still under treatment.

The police said a case under Sections 279 and 304-A of the IPC had been registered against the pickup driver, Vikas, a resident of Sirmaur district in Himachal Pradesh, at the Sector 26 police station.
