Visitors gain 525-run lead against Mizoram on Day 2

Skipper Amrit Lubana came up with an unbeaten 194, while Sanyam Saini scored 133 runs as Chandigarh gained a massive 525-run first innings lead against Mizoram on the second day of their Col CK Nayudu Trophy match at Vizag today.

At the close of play, the visitors were in command at 630/5, with Lubana and Bhagmender Lather (60 not out) at the crease.

Resuming the day at 180/1, in reply to Mizoram’s first innings total of 105, Monarch Goyal and Saini added 46 runs to the total before Muanzuala brought an end to the 183-run partnership. Goyal fell six runs short of his century.

Saini then brought up his century and together with Lubana stretched the total to 298. The duo was separated when Saini eventually fell to Dina on 133.

Lubana, in company of Sanchit Sahu, then raised a 196-run partnership for the fourth wicket. Sahu scored 96-ball 87 before he was caught by Muanzuala off Dhanur Sikri.

Eight overs later, Sikri struck again, removing Taranpreet Singh on 14 to reduce Chandigarh to 516/5.

Lubana and Lather then stitched an unbeaten 114-run partnership to take

the visitors past the 600-run mark.

For the hosts, captain Sikri took 2/122, while Dina (1/89) and Muanzuala (1/139) got one wicket each.

Ranji Trophy: 3 points for Chandigarh

Chandigarh: The Ranji Trophy match between hosts Chandigarh and Sikkim ended in a draw after the last day’s play was abandoned due to wet outfield at the Sector 16 stadium here on Tuesday. Chandigarh were awarded three points on the basis of their first innings lead, while Sikkim got one point. Trailing Chandigarh by 96 runs, Sikkim were reeling at 69/3 on Monday. Chandigarh now have 23 points from five matches and are placed third in the Plate Group behind table-toppers Goa (29) and Pondicherry (27). The Manan Vohra-led side will face hosts Goa in their sixth-round fixture from January 19. TNS

Cooch Behar Trophy: City boys stay on top

Chandigarh: Chandigarh colts got three points from their Cooch Behar Trophy match against Goa at the Government Senior Secondary School grounds in Sector 26 here. The match ended in a draw as only 10 overs could be bowled on the fourth and final day on Tuesday. Resuming the day at 86/6, Goa skipper Kaushal Hattangadi (72 not out) and Yogesh Kauthankar (7) added 28 runs to their overnight total before bad light stopped the play. In their first innings, Goa had scored 232 runs. Chandigarh, in reply, got 416. The Surya Narayan Yadav-led side top the Plate Group with 51 points from eight matches and will now face Pondicherry in their last league match from January 18 at the Sector 16 stadium. TNS
