Through “Amma” she is trying to spread awareness on postpartum depression and the emotional journey that mothers go through, and how family and society can support them in this journey. “When it comes to portraying motherhood, the most common theme that we choose in Bharatanatyam is Yasoda and Krishna. In Amma, I am trying to show the other phase of motherhood, portraying the emotional changes that a new mother goes through from the mother’s perspective”, says Aparna.

Aparna is an internationally renowned dancer who has won several national and international awards from prestigious organizations in India and USA for her notable work in the field of Bharatanatyam and Kuchipudi across the world. She has already proven to be a successful dancer across the globe. And now this innovative dance production has made her to have her imprint in the history of Bharatanatyam, and also to make a small change in the world through this awareness on Women’s mental health and support.

“Natyashastra”, the detailed treatise on Indian classical dance elaborates on the characteristics of a dancer which includes agility, beauty, grace, humility, intelligence, dedication and hard work. Aparna is a perfect embodiment of an ideal dancer.
