During promotions of Kabir Singh, Shahid Kapoor in the middle of infamous July heat and humidity chose a bomber jacket that were paired with his Dolce and Gabbana white sneakers. While we don’t know what compelled him or his stylist to make him sport the garment, but there must be something to it making a bomber jacket the go-to style statement.

“It’s that effortless cool-casual look, which a bomber carries,” opines designer duo Sheena and Ratan Ohri from the label Shibori. Which is precisely why celebs in film industries far and wide, on and off screen, have often resorted to the garment. Be it Ryan Gosling with a metallic jacket in the 2011 film Drive that contributed to making him the Ryan Gosling we know of today, or be it closer home our famous Punjabi boys in a bomber, starting with none other than Diljit Dosanjh. Or, so it appears going by the social media posts of the singer-actor, who, while touring in Canada or promoting Good Newzz back home, could be seen in the garment. Right from the eclectic types to those screaming loudly of the labels, if it’s a bomber, just throw it on. “Since the garment is in sync with the resurgence of whole athleisure movement in the fashion industry, that helped improve its versatility as well.” It isn’t very different with the ladies of B-town, the younger crop that can be sported in the style, though mostly at airports.

Dos and don’ts

Usually the dos and don’ts of winter styling often extend to the bomber as well. “It also depends on whether you are dressing it up or dressing it down. For instance, a bomber when paired with a skirt, needs to be styled differently from when paired with a cargo pant,” warns Sheena. But yes, a few general rules can be laid out.

Keep the look clutter-free

A bomber is a garment meets accessory, so the fabric and colour of the jacket must be kept in mind. For instance, a sequin bomber jacket ideally must be in eclectic colours and worn accordingly. The fit also matters. Ideally oversized bombers are a strict no-no. The quilted bomber jackets scream outdoorsy vibes. Therefore refrain from wearing them on occasions, considering winter brings a lot many occasions and festivals in India.

Avoid the frills

Since a bomber jacket is meant to move from after hours to outer wear effortlessly, refrain from going for the ones with extra features like a hood or fur embellishments around the neck.
