Chandigarh, January 20
Punjab Governor and UT Administrator VP Singh Badnore launched battery-operated carts for visitors, especially elderly and differently abled persons, at the Sector 17 Plaza here today.
While sharing information about the carts, Commissioner KK Yadav said: “The project has been completed at a cost of Rs 47 lakh. The aim is to provide seamless connectivity at the Plaza with non-polluting and non-motorised public transport.”
He said the battery-operated carts would ferry persons free of cost. The service would be available from 8 am to 8 pm. These carts are enabled with GPS tracking, LED screen, speakers and magazine holder for information dissemination related to initiatives/ important announcements by various government institutions.
These carts have safety features such as fire extinguisher, first-aid kit and speed governor to regulate the speed of the battery-operated cart to less than 20 kmph to ensure safety of pedestrians.
