Woman’s death: Kin allege negligence

A high drama was witnessed after a patient with heart disease died at the Delhi Heart Hospital on Sunday night and latter asked family members to take the body right away. Family members of the deceased accused the hospital staff of medical negligence and “inappropriate behaviour”. The police intervened later and a compromise between both parties was reached after hospital staff tendered unconditional apology to the family members of the deceased.

As per information, 42-year-old Karamjit Kaur, a resident of Faridkot Kotli village in Sangat block, was a heart patient and brought to the hospital for treatment on January 15. She was admitted to the hospital until January 18 after which her condition deteriorated.

Talking to Bathinda Tribune, Sandeep Singh, son of the deceased, said, "The doctors informed me that the condition of my mother was bad and later a surgery was performed. Post-surgery instead of improvement my mother complained of acute constant pain. We were approaching medical staff at the hospital but they were hardly paying any attention to my mother. We got the treatment done through the Ayushman Bharat Sarbat Sehat Bima Scheme. Late on Sunday night, she died after which the hospital staff asked us to take the body away. The hospital staff behaved very rudely and compelled us to remove the body immediately."

On Monday morning relatives and family members of the deceased gathered outside the hospital and lodged a protest against the hospital management. Later, the medical staff tendered apology to the family members of the deceased following which latter took the body for cremation.

When contacted, Sandeep Parchanda, manager of the Delhi Heart Hospital, said, “There must have been some communication gap. As per staff members, they had asked the family members of the deceased to take away the body on their own or the hospital can make arrangements for the same. There was no negligence on the part of the hospital staff and we ensured quality treatment without any hassle to our patients.”
