Woman, son die in accident; kin allege murder

A mother-son duo was killed when the car they were travelling in rammed the rear of a truck on the Dabwali road near Gurusar Sainiwala village here on late Wednesday evening. The mother has been identified as Bimla Devi and son as Krishan Kumar.

On Thursday morning, the incident took a twist when kin of the deceased blocked the GT road in protest outside the Civil Hospital and said this was not an accident, but a murder with a planned conspiracy.

They said the deceased man’s sister, identified as Manisha, was also in the car at the time of the incident. She was seriously injured and suffered a miscarriage. The mother, son and daughter were returning to their home after meeting Manish’s in-laws at their house where they had gone to settle a dispute. Manisha’s in-laws followed their car and rammed it from the rear, leading their car to further ram into a truck going ahead of them. The mother and son were killed on the spot while Manisha was injured and admitted to a private hospital.

The protest on the GT road led to a traffic jam on both sides of the road and commuters had to suffer a lot of inconvenience. After getting information in this regard, DSP Davinder Singh, Kotwali police station SHO Davinder Singh, Bathinda Sadar police station SHO Sunil Kumar, along with a huge police force, reached the spot and tried to pacify the protesters. They asked them to clear the road, but protesters remained adamant on the protest until the police registered a case.

Later in the evening when the police assured them of registering a case against the accused persons, they lifted the protest. The bodies were handed over to the family members after a postmortem.

The injured woman’s cousin Kuldeep Kumar of Dabwali said Manisha was married to Avneesh Kumar of Bathinda four months ago and after a few days of their marriage her in-laws started harassing and beating her up, due to which her cousin, Krishan, was quite upset.

On Wednesday as well, her cousin, Manisha, was beaten up by her in-laws, so Manisha’s mother and brother came to Bathinda and talked to her husband Avneesh who also beat them up. They, along with Manisha, left for Dabwali, but Avneesh, who was allegedly following them in his Innova car, rammed their car from the rear at Gurusar Sainiwala village, which further rammed the rear of the truck, leading to the fatal accident.
