Bathinda, February 18

Water supply and sanitation contract workers along with their families on Tuesday staged a protest outside the office of executive engineer Division-1 over the non-payment of salaries and other issues.

They raised slogans against the water supply management. Workers district president Sandeep Khan alleged senior officials of the department were deliberately delaying the salaries and exploiting the contract workers.

He alleged, “When we take up the matter with the officials concerned, they cite a delay in forwarding bills at the subdivision level or some other excuse. The workers are paid low salary and those who joined the department a few years ago get between Rs 7,000 and 8,000 on a monthly basis.”
