Jaito (Faridkot), December 11

After a verbal spat between the Jaito police and some local Congress leaders on the issue of clearing of the Ram Leela ground in the town of rehris, the district police chief on Wednesday ordered an inquiry.

Accusing the Jaito police of misbehaving with a senior Congress leader, Sat Pal Doad, the vice-president of the Punjab Congress, party workers and residents sat on a dharna in front of the Jaito police station. The protesters lodged a written complaint with the police before staging the protest.

After getting the information about the stand-off, Manjit Singh Dhesi, SSP, Faridkot, sent DSPs of Kotkapura and Faridkot to Jaito to pacify the protesters. While ordering the transfer of Sanjiv Kumar, SHO, to the Police Lines, the DSPs on behalf of the SSP assured a fair investigation into the allegations.

Sources in the police said there were complaints of ‘rehris’ doting the Ram Leela ground area, obstructing the smooth movement of traffic. As a police party had went to the Ram Leela ground to ask the ‘rehriwalas’ to not obstruct the movement of traffic. When some Congress leaders objected to this move of the police, a verbal spat broke out between them.
