Two farmers to sell crop residue in Gujarat

Muktsar, November 26

Showing the way to other farmers in managing paddy stubble without burning it and making money from it, two farmers from Abul Khurana village in Malout subdivision here have been storing the crop residue in their fields for transporting it to Gujarat.

Navdeep Singh and Manpreet Singh said they had not been burning the paddy and wheat residue for the past three years. “With this, not just the crop yield has increased, but we will even make money by selling our crop residue. Farmers should make some groups and buy crop residue management machines on subsidy. These are being provided by the state government,” they added.

Chief Agriculture Officer Baljinder Singh Brar said, “Many famers, including these two, are setting an example for others. The burning of crop residue not just causes pollution, but also kills helpful pests in the soil.”— TNS
