SI nabbed for accepting Rs 50,000 bribe

Sleuths of the Vigilance Bureau (VB) on Saturday arrested a sub inspector of the Faridkot police for accepting bribe of Rs 50,000. It is alleged that the accused sub inspector, Vakeel Singh (pic), was posted in the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of the police. 

 Sources in the VB revealed that the accused police official was investigating a complaint, in which a youth had accused Rakesh Khanna, a resident of Faridkot, of duping him of Rs 11.50 lakh on the pretext of sending him aboard. 

 It is alleged that to give clean chit to Rakesh Khanna, Vakeel Singh had demanded Rs 50,000. After receiving a complaint from Rakesh, VB sleuths arrested the accused police official while accepting the bribe. The police official has both his sons settled in Canada and his younger brother is known for his promixity to a Congress MLA. — TNS
