Muktsar, December 14

The recent rain has caused some loss to the cotton crop standing in the fields, which the farmers claim that would be discolored now, fetch lesser price. Similarly, the basmati lying in the grain markets has also gained the moisture level.

The seasonal vegetables too have suffered some damage and the prices too have increased after the rain. However, the mild rainfall has proved beneficial for the growing wheat crop and kinnow as well. The kinnow growers said that the fruit would turn sweet with the dip in temperature and fog.

Similarly, the wheat growers said that the rain would reduce the need of irrigating the field by canal or underground water for some days. However, those who were yet to sow the wheat seeds would have to wait for some more days now. “The wheat seed requires a particular temperature for sowing, thus it will now take a few days,” said the farmers.

Meanwhile, an agriculture expert said that the cotton crop picking was almost in its last leg, thus there was no major loss to the farmers. “The rain is overall good for the farmers,” he said.
