Muktsar, February 28

Rebate on payment of pending property tax has given good results to the local municipal council. For instance, it has become richer by Rs 64.57 lakh in the last two months.

Notably, the local bodies department had brought a scheme that the residents would not have to pay penalty on depositing the pending property tax and given some other relaxations as well.

Bipan Kumar, Executive Officer (EO), Municipal Council, Muktsar, said, “After November 27, we have collected the property tax of Rs 64.57 lakh. Further, if we talk about the current financial year, then the municipal council has collected nearly Rs 1.5 crore as property tax.”

He further said, however, a number of people were yet to pay the property tax. “We are yet to recover nearly Rs 1 crore as property tax from the residents,” he said.

He said, “The department has now extended the scheme till March 31 and now the remaining residents can avail the benefit as well.”

Some local residents asked that why they should pay the property tax when the municipal council was hardly providing them any facility. “One can see the garbage lying in every nook and corner of the town. If the department is collecting taxes from the denizens, then it should provide some services as well,” they said.
