Massive rally to drum up support for farmers in Bathinda

Bathinda, February 1

Farmers under the banner of BKU (Sidhupur) today held a massive gathering to mobilise support from the region at Gurdwara Hazi Rattan. The farmers from eight districts in the region participated in the meeting, which was headed by BKU (Sidhupur) senior vice-president Kaka Singh Kotra.

Lashing out at the central government for the Red Fort incident on January 26, all speakers claimed the conspiracies hatched by it to defame the farmers stood exposed as the agitation had regained the momentum at Tikri, Singhu and Ghazipur borders.

“I am heading the BKU (Sidhupur) protest at Tikri and came here yesterday only to organise the meeting. We wanted to dispel rumours and make people in the region aware of the ground situation of the ongoing protest,” said Kotra.

He said attempts had been made to clear the Ghazipur protest site, but BKU spokesperson Rakesh Tikait handled the situation well. Since then, the gathering has been swelling as people from Uttar Pradesh and Haryana have reached there in droves.

He appealed to people to reach Delhi protest sites in large numbers to strengthen the farmers’ cause and thwart the nefarious plans of defaming the struggle. “We are calm and firm to continue our protest until the three farm laws are repealed,” said Kotra. — TNS
