Man shot dead at rice mill

Kotkapura: A 34-year-old property dealer was shot dead at a rice mill here on Saturday evening. According to information, there was an alleged dispute over a payment of Rs5 lakh as commission in property sale. According to police sources, victim Mandeep Singh and his friend Randeep Singh were working as property dealers. Some time ago, they had assisted in making a deal in purchasing land to set up a rice mill near Laleana village of Kotkapura. For the deal, the victim and his friend were to get Rs5 lakh as commission from the rice miller. There was reportedly some tension between the victim and the rice miller as the latter was “deferring” the payment time and again. On Saturday, the victim and his friend Randeep Singh went to the rice mill for the payment. According to information, arguments were exchanged between them. It is alleged during the arguments, a bullet hit Mandeep in his rear, killing him on the spot. Kotkapura DSP Balkar Singh Sandhu said the police were investigating the incident. TNS

3 held for illegal lottery business

Muktsar: The police on Saturday arrested three persons for running the illegal business of online lottery in the town. The suspects have been identified as Sagar, Kuldeep Kumar and Deepak Kumar, all residents of Muktsar. The police said four laptops, four cellphones and Rs9,700 were seized from them. A case has been registered at the Muktsar (City) police station. TNS

Doctor booked for man’s death

Muktsar: The Malout (City) police have booked a doctor after the death of a man. Deceased Jagdish Kumar’s son Akash Kumar lodged a complaint with the police in which he said his father died on Friday due to negligence of Dr Ram Asija. Acting on his complaint, a case under Section 304-A of the IPC has been registered against the doctor. The suspect, however, is yet to be arrested. TNS
