Just before end of MC term, Mayor calls F&CC meeting

As the term of the MC House will come to an end on March 8, Mayor Balwant Rai Nath has convened a meeting of the Finance and Contract Committee (F&CC) for February 20 in a bid to start development works ahead of the civic body elections. As many as 70 agenda items worth Rs9.18 crore will be be tabled at the meeting for approval.

It has been learnt that earlier, the General House meeting was convened before February 4, but it got delayed as officials did not provide files related to new estimates to the Mayor. Hence, he decided to convene the F&CC meeting in which tenders, which have been opened, will be allotted to contractors so that work can be started at the earliest.

Works on laying premix on roads, installing interlocking tiles, renovation of parks, construction of a dharamshala, toilet blocks and memorial gate and beautification of parks have been included in agenda.

Besides, laying a metal road in Bank Colony and premix in ward no. 20 streets, constructing a toilet block near Bakshi Hospital, installing interlocking tiles in ward no. 45, beautification of Maharaja Agrasen Park, installing LED lights in Balraj Nagar, laying premix on the stretch from Mehna Basti to Badal Road, roads in the Civil Lines and 60 FT Road in Model Town will be part of the agenda items.

Proposals for installing interlocking tiles in the Civil Lines and Ajit Road areas, constructing a drain in the Power House Road area, a dispensary in ward no. 1 and a shed in park no. 4, renovation of a toilet block near Bhana Mall Trust and repair of Shaheed Jarnail Singh park will be tabled at the meeting.

Proposals for purchasing of tree guards worth Rs45 lakh and saplings at a cost of Rs20 lakh are likely to be opposed by F&CC members.

Besides the Mayor, Senior Deputy Mayor Tarsem Goyal, Deputy Mayor Gurinderpal Kaur Mangat, councillors Harmander Singh Sidhu and Nirmal Singh Sandhu, who are F&CC members, MC Commissioner Bikramjit Shergill, SE Sandeep Gupta, XEN Kishore Bansal and Davinder Jaura will attend the meeting.
