Bathinda, June 29

Two gangsters lodged in Bathinda central jail allegedly beat up the jail warden here on Tuesday.

On a complaint registered at the Bathinda Cantt police station on Tuesday, Assistant Jail Superintendent Gauravdeep Singh sought action against gangsters Rajveer Singh, a resident of Gurdaspur, and Gurdeep Singh, a resident of Ludhiana, who allegedly beat up the jail warden.

The jail officials had recovered a mobile phone and five SIM cards from Rajveer on Tuesday.

The complaint alleged that the gangsters not only beat up jail warden Gurmeet Singh but also pushed other officials around and tried to flee from the jail security block.

The assailants allegedly threatened the police personnel with dire consequences.

Investigation officer Sub-Inspector Karamjit Singh said, "As per the complaint received from the jail authorities, the police have registered a case against the two gangsters under various sections of the Prisons Act and started further investigation."
