Fight erupts among inmates at Faridkot jail, 17 booked by police

A brawl broke out between two groups of inmates in Faridkot Central Jail on Friday, which witnessed brick bating and fist-cuffing. The situation, however, was brought under control and no casualty was reported.

According to reports, after the clash broke out, inmates went on rampage, following which heavy police contingent was rushed to the jail.

The police have registered a criminal case against 17 inmates, who belong to Amritsar, Ferozepur, Taran Taran, Lduhiana, Moga and Faridkot districts. The case has been registered under Sections 42 and 52 of the Punjab Jail Act and Section 3 of the Public Property Act.

Jail superintendent Nachhatar Singh, who is complainant in the case, said there were heated arguments among inmates that led to the fight. After the fight, the jail authorities searched the jail and recovered two mobile phones and many bricks.
