Eminent poets enthral audience

To exhibit the real art of poetry of Urdu, Punjabi and Hindi languages, the Central University of Punjab organised a tri-lingual ‘mushaira’ on Monday on its campus. The programme was organised by the department of Punjabi, in collaboration with Punjab Urdu Academy, Malerkotla.

Vice-chancellor Prof RK Kohli presided over the event and Latif Ahmed, secretary of the Punjab Urdu Academy and Phagwara SDM were special guests on the occasion. Eminent poets from various states took part in the poetic symposium and regaled the audience with their beautiful couplets. CUP registrar KP Singh Mundra, along with faculty, staff and students, participated in the event.

Professor P Ramarao, Dean (academic affairs) welcomed the guests and highlighted the importance of mushaira in preserving our culture. Latif Ahmed shared the contribution of Punjab Urdu Academy in the promotion of Urdu language and its literature in the state. He highlighted various career opportunities in Urdu language and encouraged students to learn the beautiful language.

Renowned Urdu poets such as Muhammad Rafi, Muhammad Salim Zuberi, Sahibjzada Azmal Khan Sherwani and Zafar Ahmed captivated the audience with their beautiful ghazals and nazams. Hindi poets Rajinder Kumar and Sandeep Kumar Bishnoi demonstrated their original works in Hindi Shayari. In addition to this, Zameer Sandhu fascinated everyone with her poetry in Punjabi.
