Faridkot, February 19

To inspect the pace of development works in the rural area, Kumar Saurabh Raj, Deputy Commissioner, Faridkot, on Wednesday visited Jaito, Bishnandi, Chandbhan, Darbi Khana, Romana Ajit Singh, Ghania, Mallan and Sarawan villages of Jaito sub-division.

Asked the authorities concerned to speed up the completion of these works, the Deputy Commissioner took meetings with residents of these villages to get information about the ongoing projects in their area.

He paid more attention to the construction of rooms in schools, flooring with inter-lock tiles in streets and cleaning-cum-desilting of ponds in the villages.

He visited the village schools and also took stock of the situation about the availability of rooms and other infrastructure in these schools.

For the last about nine months, the district administration has focused on cleaning of ponds and to sensitise the village panchayats on the issue so that these ponds could be used to conserve water during the monsoon season.

In 213 villages of Faridkot district, there are total 272 ponds. Most of these ponds were being used to dump waste water. Some ponds in these villages have been filled up with mud. The district administration has started a move to desilt these ponds of mud to make use of these ponds for rain water harvesting in the coming monsoon.
