Bathinda, November 15

Members of the district Congress committee on Friday staged a protest against ‘anti- people policies’ of the Central government and burnt an effigy of Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the Fire Brigade chowk here.

The protest was headed by Bathinda urban Congress president Arun Wadhawan and Bathinda rural Congress president Khushbaz Singh Jattana.

Congress workers protested for two hours and raised slogans against the BJP government. Later, they burnt the effigy of Prime Minister. Congress leaders claimed that the aim behind this protest was to make people aware about the socio-economic problems created by the BJP-led government.

While addressing the protesters, Khushbaz Singh Jattana said: “The BJP government has been pursuing anti-people policies which have forced us to go on protest.”

He alleged that job cuts in all major sectors due to poor economic policies had also derailed the country’s growth and highly affected the working class. The country was reeling under an unprecedented economic slowdown, unemployment was increasing steadily and people were fast losing jobs. Business and service sector growth was declining each day and industries were shutting down.

Terming the Modi government as anti-farmers, Arun Wadhawan alleged that the BJP government was harming the interest of people. Demonetisation and poor implementation of the GST are the few classic example of this, he alleged. The agriculture sector was under heavy debt and farmers were not getting remunerative prices for their crops.

Congress leader and Bathinda Improvement Trust chairman KK Aggarwal , Jagroo[ Gill, Tehal Singh Sandhu, Rupinder Bindra, Jugraj Singh MC, Raju Sra, Beant Singh Randhawa, Jasvir Kaur, Raj Mehra and others were present in the protest.
